Elastic Beanstalk, without the black box.

You do not have to leave AWS, just the Beanstalk magic. Appliku deploys your app to an EC2 instance in your own account and manages it for you: fast deploys, root SSH, no 4KB environment variable limit, and Django-native defaults. Built for Django and Python, with fast, direct support.

No credit card required.

Trusted by over 7,800 teams to run their apps in production.

In short

Appliku and AWS Elastic Beanstalk both deploy your app onto AWS without you wiring the infrastructure by hand. The difference is how much you can see and control. Elastic Beanstalk is a managed layer over EC2 that hides the moving parts, applies hard limits, and is a known fight for Django. Appliku deploys your app to a plain EC2 instance in your own account and manages it for you, with fast deploys, root SSH, standard Docker and Nginx, and defaults tuned for Django and Python (FastAPI, Rails, and Next.js too). It includes direct support and a done-for-you migration on paid plans.

Elastic Beanstalk is genuinely capable. Here is the difference.

Elastic Beanstalk is AWS's own managed way to run an app, backed by AWS's scale and tied into the rest of the AWS ecosystem. If your team lives in AWS and wants AWS to own the plumbing, it is a reasonable choice, and we will say so.

The difference is the black box. Beanstalk does a lot of magic behind the scenes, so when a deploy fails you are often guessing why. Deploys can take 10 to 30 minutes, there is a hard 4KB limit on environment variables and a 500MB app bundle limit, and Django in particular is a known fight: health checks that trip on ALLOWED_HOSTS, collectstatic wired through .ebextensions, and the dreaded red Severe status with a 502.

Appliku keeps you on AWS but runs your app on a plain EC2 instance in your account. You get fast deploys, root SSH, standard Docker and Nginx you can actually inspect, and Django defaults that just work, all managed for you.

Django that deploys, not debugs

The things people fight Beanstalk over are the defaults on Appliku.

ALLOWED_HOSTS and health checks
Handled for you
collectstatic and migrations on deploy
Built in, no .ebextensions
Environment variables
No 4KB limit

Appliku sets sensible Django defaults on your server, so a fresh deploy serves traffic instead of showing a Severe status and a 502.

The friction that a managed EC2 removes

These are the tradeoffs Elastic Beanstalk users raise most often. Each one changes on a plain EC2 that Appliku manages for you.

A black box when it fails

Beanstalk's behind-the-scenes magic makes failures hard to trace, with logs scattered across the box. On Appliku it is a plain server: root SSH, standard Docker and Nginx, and nothing hidden.

Deploys that take 10 to 30 minutes

Even small changes can take half an hour to go live. Appliku deploys to your own instance in a fraction of that.

A hard 4KB environment variable limit

Beanstalk caps all your environment variables at 4KB, and it cannot be raised, so growing apps hit a wall. On your own server there is no such cap.

A 500MB app bundle limit

Large dependencies or monorepos can exceed Beanstalk's bundle size limit. On Appliku your build runs on your server, with no platform bundle ceiling.

Django is a fight

ALLOWED_HOSTS tripping health checks, collectstatic through .ebextensions, and 502 Severe statuses are rites of passage on Beanstalk. Appliku handles them by default.

Platform version churn

Beanstalk retires platform versions on a schedule, so you are pushed to migrate to stay supported. Appliku maintains the server for you on standard components that do not force that churn.

Based on public Elastic Beanstalk user reports on Reddit, Stack Overflow, and migration write-ups, mid 2026, and AWS documentation. Details change, so check current terms before you decide.

A person, not a support tier

Debugging Beanstalk alone is the hard part. On Appliku you email us and hear back fast, often from the founder who built it, and on a paid plan we will do the migration with you.

"I had a few issues and questions with my deploy and got super fast support. 10/10 would recommend for any Django app."

Dave Faliskie
Software Developer, 1ManStartup

"The support by its creator is unbeatable and fast, and the prices are fair. Every important service can be spun up with a few clicks."

Questions Elastic Beanstalk users ask

Do I have to leave AWS?
No. Appliku deploys to an EC2 instance in your own AWS account and manages it for you. You keep AWS, you just drop the Beanstalk layer. It also works on DigitalOcean, Hetzner, or any VPS.
Will deploys be faster?
Yes. Appliku deploys to your instance in a fraction of the 10 to 30 minutes people report on Beanstalk.
What about the 4KB environment variable limit?
There is no such limit on your own server. Your environment variables live on the instance, so you are not capped at 4KB or a 500MB bundle.
Does it handle Django ALLOWED_HOSTS and collectstatic?
Yes, by default. Appliku sets Django-friendly defaults and runs collectstatic and migrations on deploy, so you do not fight health checks or .ebextensions.
Can I still SSH in and see the logs?
Yes. It is your server, so you get root SSH and your app logs, without hunting across the box for a Beanstalk error.
Can you move my app off Elastic Beanstalk for me?
Yes. On any paid plan we do the migration with you on a screen-share, including your database and workers, and test before cutover.

Keep AWS. Lose the black box.
