DigitalOcean App Platform, on a Droplet you own.

You do not have to leave DigitalOcean, just the App Platform. Appliku deploys your app to a Droplet in your own account and manages it for you, so you get the CPU you pick, root control, and unlimited apps, with no build-time ceiling. Built for Django and Python, with fast, direct support.

No credit card required.

Trusted by over 7,800 teams to run their apps in production.

In short

Appliku and DigitalOcean App Platform both give you a managed, push-to-deploy experience on DigitalOcean. The difference is what runs your app. App Platform runs it on DigitalOcean's constrained platform: fixed instances, shared builders, and VPC access that only works outbound. Appliku runs it on a full Droplet in your own DigitalOcean account (or any other provider) and manages that Droplet for you, so you get the CPU you pick, two-way private networking, a static IP, and root control. Appliku is built for Django and Python (FastAPI, Rails, and Next.js too) and includes direct support and a done-for-you migration on paid plans.

App Platform is genuinely good. Here is the difference.

DigitalOcean App Platform is a simple, fully managed way to ship an app inside the DigitalOcean ecosystem, at a low entry price. For a small, low-traffic project it is an easy on-ramp, and we will say so.

The difference is the ceiling. App Platform runs on fixed instances with builders and CPUs you cannot change, and its VPC support is outbound only: your app can reach a database privately, but other Droplets, Kubernetes, or a VPN cannot reach your app over the network, and you cannot pair it with a dedicated egress IP. Appliku keeps you on DigitalOcean but runs your app on a real Droplet in your account. You pick the size, the Droplet is a full two-way member of your VPC, it has its own IP, and you get root access if you ever want it.

Same DigitalOcean, same push-to-deploy workflow, but on infrastructure you control and we maintain. If you would rather run somewhere else, Appliku works the same on AWS, Hetzner, or any VPS.

A Droplet's worth of power, flat pricing

The same DigitalOcean bill you understand, plus one flat Appliku plan.

App Platform: fixed instances, plus managed database and add-ons
Per-app instance and add-on pricing
Appliku: flat plan, plus a Droplet you size and own
$18/mo plus a $12 to $24 Droplet
What you gain
Unlimited apps on one Droplet

On App Platform each app is its own priced instance. On Appliku you can run unlimited apps and databases on a single Droplet you own, and add more Droplets when you want. You pay DigitalOcean directly for the Droplet, so it stays yours. Your exact numbers depend on your app, provider, and plan.

The friction that a Droplet removes

These are the tradeoffs App Platform users raise most often on Reddit and the DigitalOcean forum. They are not universal, but each one changes on a full Droplet.

Networking only goes one way

App Platform added VPC access, but it is outbound only: your app can reach a database privately, yet other Droplets, Kubernetes, or a VPN cannot reach your app over the VPC, and it cannot be combined with a dedicated egress IP. A Droplet is a full two-way member of your VPC.

Slow builds

App Platform users report builds taking 15 to 30 minutes on shared builders. On Appliku the build runs on your own Droplet at the size you choose, so it is as fast as the server you picked.

Fixed, slower CPUs

Users describe App Platform CPUs as slow and not selectable. On a Droplet you pick the plan, including premium and dedicated CPU options, and keep the full performance of the machine.

No native static outbound IP

Whitelisting a third-party service on App Platform means a paid add-on that you cannot use at the same time as VPC access. Your Droplet has its own dedicated IP, plus a reserved IP option, alongside full VPC networking, at no extra platform charge.

Per-app bandwidth caps

The basic App Platform tier caps outbound bandwidth per app. A Droplet includes a generous transfer allowance from DigitalOcean, shared across every app you run on it.

Limited control

App Platform is a closed box: basic databases, no root, limited scaling on lower tiers. On a Droplet you have root, run any database in a container, and customize the server, while Appliku still manages it for you.

Based on public App Platform user reports on Reddit, Hacker News, and the DigitalOcean community forum, mid 2026. Details and pricing on both platforms change, so check current terms before you decide.

Developers already running Appliku on their own servers

"I tried almost everything (Heroku, AWS, Render, DigitalOcean) and Appliku has the easiest UI, best support and higher value overall."

Antonio Tropiano
Data Internships

"You get the best of both worlds, a PaaS like experience, but it's your cloud servers where you can control costs and increase resources."

Jonathan Adly
Founder, GalenAI

"Appliku makes deploys simple and painless. I can use a server from any cloud service, not just the big names. Their customer service goes above and beyond."

A fast reply, not a boilerplate ticket

Support is often the tiebreaker. On Appliku you email us and hear back fast, often from the founder who built it. When you cannot win the afternoon back, that turnaround is the difference.

"I had a few issues and questions with my deploy and got super fast support. 10/10 would recommend for any Django app."

Dave Faliskie
Software Developer, 1ManStartup

"The support by its creator is unbeatable and fast, and the prices are fair. Every important service can be spun up with a few clicks."

Questions App Platform users ask

Do I have to leave DigitalOcean?
No. Appliku deploys to a Droplet in your own DigitalOcean account and manages it for you. You keep DigitalOcean, you just move off the App Platform. It also works on AWS, Hetzner, or any VPS if you prefer.
Can my app use VPC and private networking?
Yes. Your app runs on a Droplet, a full two-way member of your VPC, so it can reach your databases and be reached by other Droplets, Kubernetes, or a VPN privately. App Platform added VPC access too, but it is outbound only and cannot be combined with a dedicated egress IP.
Will my builds be faster?
Builds run on your own Droplet at the size you choose, so they are as fast as the machine you picked, instead of a shared builder you cannot control.
What about a static outbound IP?
Your Droplet has its own dedicated IP, and you can attach a reserved IP, with no extra platform add-on to whitelist third-party services.
Who maintains the Droplet?
Appliku does. We set up and maintain the Droplet: web server, SSL, deploys, databases, and backups. You get root SSH if you ever want it, but you never need it.
What does it cost?
Start free, no credit card. Paid plans start at $18/mo and include the done-for-you migration. You pay DigitalOcean directly for the Droplet.
